How to cancel Acorns

A quick, up-to-date guide to cancelling Acorns — and keeping proof that you did, in case you're charged anyway.

Before you click cancel: the moment you cancel is exactly when proof matters. CancelProof records your cancellation — the pages, the clicks, the confirmation — so if Acorns bills you after you cancel, you have a refund pack ready. Add to Chrome — Free

Cancel Acorns in 5 steps

  1. Sign in to the Acorns app or acorns.com.
  2. Go to 'Settings' → 'Subscription' / 'Manage Subscription'.
  3. Select 'Close account' / 'Cancel subscription' — Acorns will move your invested funds out first.
  4. Confirm whether to withdraw or transfer your invested balance (this may have tax implications).
  5. Get a cancellation confirmation and keep it.

What happens after you cancel

Acorns charges a flat monthly subscription fee. Cancelling stops the fee; you'll first withdraw or transfer your invested balance, which can take a few business days and may have tax implications. Closing before the next monthly fee avoids that charge.

Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel in that store's Subscriptions section too — but you must also move your invested funds via Acorns itself.

Charged after cancelling Acorns?

It happens more than it should. If a charge lands after you cancelled, here's how to get your money back from Acorns — and why documented proof is what makes the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Will Acorns charge me after I cancel?
It shouldn't. After you cancel, Acorns keeps your access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then stops billing. If a charge still appears, see our guide on being charged after cancelling Acorns.
Does cancelling Acorns delete my account?
No. Cancelling stops future billing but usually keeps your account so you can return later. Deleting your account is a separate action in Acorns's settings.
How do I know my Acorns cancellation worked?
Look for a cancellation confirmation email from Acorns and check that your account shows the plan ending. Keeping that confirmation — an email or a screenshot — is your proof if there's ever a dispute.
