How to cancel DigitalOcean

A quick, up-to-date guide to cancelling DigitalOcean — and keeping proof that you did, in case you're charged anyway.

Before you click cancel: the moment you cancel is exactly when proof matters. CancelProof records your cancellation — the pages, the clicks, the confirmation — so if DigitalOcean bills you after you cancel, you have a refund pack ready. Add to Chrome — Free

Cancel DigitalOcean in 5 steps

  1. Sign in at cloud.digitalocean.com.
  2. Destroy any Droplets, databases, and other billable resources you no longer need (billing is usage-based).
  3. Open 'Settings' → 'Billing' and confirm there are no active resources.
  4. To close the account, open 'Settings' → 'Account' → 'Deactivate/Close account'.
  5. Keep the final invoice/confirmation.

What happens after you cancel

DigitalOcean bills for the resources you run (Droplets, storage, etc.), so 'cancelling' means destroying your resources to stop charges, then optionally closing the account. Back up any data first. You're billed for usage up to that point.

Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?

DigitalOcean is billed on its website — there's no app-store subscription to manage.

Charged after cancelling DigitalOcean?

It happens more than it should. If a charge lands after you cancelled, here's how to get your money back from DigitalOcean — and why documented proof is what makes the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Will DigitalOcean charge me after I cancel?
It shouldn't. After you cancel, DigitalOcean keeps your access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then stops billing. If a charge still appears, see our guide on being charged after cancelling DigitalOcean.
Does cancelling DigitalOcean delete my account?
No. Cancelling stops future billing but usually keeps your account so you can return later. Deleting your account is a separate action in DigitalOcean's settings.
How do I know my DigitalOcean cancellation worked?
Look for a cancellation confirmation email from DigitalOcean and check that your account shows the plan ending. Keeping that confirmation — an email or a screenshot — is your proof if there's ever a dispute.

Cancelling something? Keep the proof.
