How to cancel Dropbox
A quick, up-to-date guide to cancelling Dropbox — and keeping proof that you did, in case you're charged anyway.
Cancel Dropbox in 6 steps
- Log in to dropbox.com and click your avatar in the bottom-left corner.
- Select Manage account from the menu.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Cancel plan.
- Choose a reason for cancelling when prompted.
- Click Continue canceling (or Confirm change) and follow the remaining prompts to finish.
- Keep the confirmation email from Dropbox (subject about your plan not renewing) as proof.
What happens after you cancel
Your paid plan stays active until the end of the current billing cycle, then your account automatically converts to the free Dropbox Basic plan with no further charges. You keep access to all your files, but storage is limited to the free 2 GB - if your files exceed that, Dropbox stops syncing to your devices until you free up space. Cancelling is a downgrade, not a deletion, so your account and files remain.
Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?
These steps only work if you subscribed directly on dropbox.com. If you purchased Dropbox through a mobile app store, the "Cancel plan" option will not appear on the website. Apple subscribers must cancel in iPhone/iPad Settings > your name > Subscriptions, and Google Play subscribers must cancel in the Play Store > Subscriptions. Your cancellation confirmation will come from that app store rather than Dropbox.
Charged after cancelling Dropbox?
