How to cancel Heroku

A quick, up-to-date guide to cancelling Heroku — and keeping proof that you did, in case you're charged anyway.

Before you click cancel: the moment you cancel is exactly when proof matters. CancelProof records your cancellation — the pages, the clicks, the confirmation — so if Heroku bills you after you cancel, you have a refund pack ready. Add to Chrome — Free

Cancel Heroku in 5 steps

  1. Sign in at dashboard.heroku.com.
  2. For each app, remove paid dynos and add-ons (scale dynos to 0 / delete add-ons) to stop charges.
  3. Delete apps you no longer need under each app's 'Settings'.
  4. To close the account, open 'Account settings' → 'Delete account'.
  5. Keep the final invoice/confirmation.

What happens after you cancel

Heroku bills for paid dynos and add-ons, so stop charges by scaling down or deleting apps and add-ons, then optionally close the account. Back up your data and databases first. You're billed for usage up to that point.

Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?

Heroku (Salesforce) is billed on its website — there's no app-store subscription to manage.

Charged after cancelling Heroku?

It happens more than it should. If a charge lands after you cancelled, here's how to get your money back from Heroku — and why documented proof is what makes the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Will Heroku charge me after I cancel?
It shouldn't. After you cancel, Heroku keeps your access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then stops billing. If a charge still appears, see our guide on being charged after cancelling Heroku.
Does cancelling Heroku delete my account?
No. Cancelling stops future billing but usually keeps your account so you can return later. Deleting your account is a separate action in Heroku's settings.
How do I know my Heroku cancellation worked?
Look for a cancellation confirmation email from Heroku and check that your account shows the plan ending. Keeping that confirmation — an email or a screenshot — is your proof if there's ever a dispute.

Cancelling something? Keep the proof.

CancelProof records your cancellation automatically — so if you're charged anyway, you're covered.
