How to cancel Kindle Unlimited

A quick, up-to-date guide to cancelling Kindle Unlimited — and keeping proof that you did, in case you're charged anyway.

Before you click cancel: the moment you cancel is exactly when proof matters. CancelProof records your cancellation — the pages, the clicks, the confirmation — so if Kindle Unlimited bills you after you cancel, you have a refund pack ready. Add to Chrome — Free

Cancel Kindle Unlimited in 5 steps

  1. Sign in at amazon.com and go to 'Account' → 'Memberships & Subscriptions' (or amazon.com/kindleunlimited).
  2. Find 'Kindle Unlimited' and open 'Manage Membership'.
  3. Select 'Cancel Kindle Unlimited Membership'.
  4. Decline retention offers and confirm.
  5. Confirm you receive a cancellation email.

What happens after you cancel

You keep Kindle Unlimited until the end of the current billing period, then it won't renew and borrowed titles are returned. Amazon may prorate a refund if you haven't used it in the current period. Prepaid plans keep access until they run out.

Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?

Kindle Unlimited is billed through your Amazon account. If you got it via an Apple App Store in-app purchase, cancel there instead.

Charged after cancelling Kindle Unlimited?

It happens more than it should. If a charge lands after you cancelled, here's how to get your money back from Kindle Unlimited — and why documented proof is what makes the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Will Kindle Unlimited charge me after I cancel?
It shouldn't. After you cancel, Kindle Unlimited keeps your access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then stops billing. If a charge still appears, see our guide on being charged after cancelling Kindle Unlimited.
Does cancelling Kindle Unlimited delete my account?
No. Cancelling stops future billing but usually keeps your account so you can return later. Deleting your account is a separate action in Kindle Unlimited's settings.
How do I know my Kindle Unlimited cancellation worked?
Look for a cancellation confirmation email from Kindle Unlimited and check that your account shows the plan ending. Keeping that confirmation — an email or a screenshot — is your proof if there's ever a dispute.
