How to cancel Proton
A quick, up-to-date guide to cancelling Proton — and keeping proof that you did, in case you're charged anyway.
Cancel Proton in 5 steps
- Sign in at account.proton.me from a web browser.
- Open 'Subscription' / 'Dashboard'.
- Select 'Cancel subscription' / downgrade to the free plan.
- Cancel before your renewal date — monthly and annual plans auto-renew.
- Confirm the cancellation.
What happens after you cancel
You keep your paid Proton plan (Mail, VPN, Drive) until the end of the current billing period, then revert to the free tier. Proton prorates a refund in some cases if you cancel mid-term. Make sure your data fits the free limits before downgrading.
Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?
If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel in that store's Subscriptions section instead of at account.proton.me.
Charged after cancelling Proton?
It happens more than it should. If a charge lands after you cancelled, here's how to get your money back from Proton — and why documented proof is what makes the difference.
