How to cancel WordPress.com

A quick, up-to-date guide to cancelling WordPress.com — and keeping proof that you did, in case you're charged anyway.

Before you click cancel: the moment you cancel is exactly when proof matters. CancelProof records your cancellation — the pages, the clicks, the confirmation — so if WordPress.com bills you after you cancel, you have a refund pack ready. Add to Chrome — Free

Cancel WordPress.com in 5 steps

  1. Sign in at wordpress.com from a web browser.
  2. Open 'Upgrades' → 'Purchases' (or 'Me' → 'Purchases').
  3. Select your plan → 'Cancel plan' / 'Cancel subscription'.
  4. Cancel within the refund window (usually 14 days for plans, 96 hours for domains) if you want your money back.
  5. Get a cancellation confirmation and keep it.

What happens after you cancel

Cancelling within the refund window (about 14 days for plans) gets a full refund; after that, the plan stays active until it expires, then your site reverts to the free tier. Domain registrations have a much shorter refund window and otherwise renew separately.

Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play (WordPress app), cancel in that store's Subscriptions section instead.

Charged after cancelling WordPress.com?

It happens more than it should. If a charge lands after you cancelled, here's how to get your money back from WordPress.com — and why documented proof is what makes the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Will WordPress.com charge me after I cancel?
It shouldn't. After you cancel, WordPress.com keeps your access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then stops billing. If a charge still appears, see our guide on being charged after cancelling WordPress.com.
Does cancelling WordPress.com delete my account?
No. Cancelling stops future billing but usually keeps your account so you can return later. Deleting your account is a separate action in WordPress.com's settings.
How do I know my WordPress.com cancellation worked?
Look for a cancellation confirmation email from WordPress.com and check that your account shows the plan ending. Keeping that confirmation — an email or a screenshot — is your proof if there's ever a dispute.
