How to cancel Xero

A quick, up-to-date guide to cancelling Xero — and keeping proof that you did, in case you're charged anyway.

Before you click cancel: the moment you cancel is exactly when proof matters. CancelProof records your cancellation — the pages, the clicks, the confirmation — so if Xero bills you after you cancel, you have a refund pack ready. Add to Chrome — Free

Cancel Xero in 5 steps

  1. Sign in at xero.com (the subscriber cancels).
  2. Open 'Settings' → 'Subscriptions' / 'Billing'.
  3. Select 'Cancel subscription' and follow the prompts.
  4. Export your accounting data first.
  5. Cancel before your renewal date and keep the confirmation.

What happens after you cancel

You keep your Xero plan until the end of the current billing period, then it stops (or reverts to any free tier). Annual plans are prepaid, so cancelling turns off the next renewal — cancel before your renewal date to avoid the next charge.

Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?

Xero is billed on its website. If you subscribed through an app store, cancel in that store's Subscriptions section instead.

Charged after cancelling Xero?

It happens more than it should. If a charge lands after you cancelled, here's how to get your money back from Xero — and why documented proof is what makes the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Will Xero charge me after I cancel?
It shouldn't. After you cancel, Xero keeps your access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then stops billing. If a charge still appears, see our guide on being charged after cancelling Xero.
Does cancelling Xero delete my account?
No. Cancelling stops future billing but usually keeps your account so you can return later. Deleting your account is a separate action in Xero's settings.
How do I know my Xero cancellation worked?
Look for a cancellation confirmation email from Xero and check that your account shows the plan ending. Keeping that confirmation — an email or a screenshot — is your proof if there's ever a dispute.

Cancelling something? Keep the proof.

CancelProof records your cancellation automatically — so if you're charged anyway, you're covered.
