How to cancel Planet Fitness

Cancel Planet Fitness in 6 steps

  1. Confirm which location is your home club - you can only cancel through the club where you signed up (check your Planet Fitness account or membership agreement).
  2. To cancel in person, visit that home club during staffed hours, bring a photo ID and your membership number, and tell the front desk you want to cancel.
  3. Complete and sign the club's cancellation form and ask for a dated copy or receipt confirming the request.
  4. If you cannot go in person, mail a signed cancellation letter to your home club by certified mail with return receipt, including your full name, date of birth, address and membership number.
  5. Send your notice so it arrives before your club's monthly cutoff (often the 10th) to avoid the next monthly draft on the billing date.
  6. Keep your signed form or the certified-mail receipt and any confirmation email as proof that you cancelled.

What happens after you cancel

Most Planet Fitness memberships cannot be cancelled online - cancellation typically must be done in person at your home club or by certified mail, and each club processes requests locally. Watch the timing: if your notice does not reach the club before the monthly cutoff you will usually be billed one more monthly fee, and the roughly $49 annual (billing) fee is charged on a fixed date each year regardless of your monthly cycle, so cancelling just before that date can still leave you owing the annual fee if it has already posted. After processing, monthly billing stops going forward but Planet Fitness does not generally refund fees already charged.

Subscribed through Apple, Google, or another provider?

Do not assume you can cancel Planet Fitness through an app, website form, or by phone - most locations do NOT allow online cancellation. You must cancel in person at your home club or by sending a certified letter to that club, and only your original home club can process it. Third-party 'cancel-for-you' services are not affiliated with Planet Fitness and may charge you while still leaving the underlying membership active, so always get written confirmation directly from your club.
